Heads up! December 7, Texas A&M ends its fall semester. That’s next Wednesday, the day you will receive your Meteor.

David Guevara, Devin Merchant, and Avery Barker are students at Madisonville High School. They have been selected for the National Wind Band and Choir Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City. David will perform in the National Wind Ensemble, Devin will perform in the National Symphonic Band, and Avery will perform in the National Concert Choir. Participation in these Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in their application and audition recording.

Sweet Magnolia Learning Center has only officially been open since Tuesday, September 27 of this year, but opening the center has led owner Danica Reese full circle. From buying the building to putting in the work on it, for example, new ceiling tiles, laying in some sheetrock, and bringing life and texture to the walls, it starts with a story.

On the night of Friday, December 2, the town of Madisonville will be visited by a special guest, who is bringing a box and setting it up in front of the courthouse on Main Street. Starting on the day of the Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3, and hosted by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the box will be ready to receive all of the letters to Santa Claus that the kids of Madison County want to bring to it.

On the morning of Friday, November 11, Madisonville High School had senior student-athletes sign National Letters of Intent in the Mustang Gym. Three baseball players signed their intent to play at the next level.

The Madisonville Mustangs Varsity basketball team season started on Tuesday, November 29, against the Livingston Lions, who are (0-2) overall at the start of writing, After that, the Mustang’s next games will be played this weekend at the Madisonville Classic, a tournament held in Madisonville from Thursday, December 1, through Saturday, December 3.

The Lady Mustangs basketball team is ramping up to be one tour de force, as now they’re 8-1 overall with a 0.89% while maintaining a seven-win streak. On Tuesday, November 22, the team faced Big Sandy (0-2) and won the game 53-38, averaging 12.3 points in the First Quarter, 14.7 in the next, and after halftime coming back with 13 points and then finally, in the last quarter for 16.3 for a final average score of 54.7.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he has completed the transfer of about $7.3 billion into the State Highway Fund (SHF) and the Economic Stabilization Fund (ESF; commonly known as the “Rainy Day Fund”). Each fund received nearly $3.64 billion, or 50 percent of the total transfer.
