MARION “MELVIN” IRVING, SR.

1956 – 2023

Marion Irving, Sr.; 66 years, 11 months, 13 days; of Madisonville, TX, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at his home with his loving wife, LaJune by his side. Marion’s life was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville, TX. Elder James R. Davis delivered the eulogy.

The burial followed at Westend Memorial Cemetery in Madisonville. at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Melvin, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on September 17, 1956, in Madisonville, TX to Ruby Mae (Irving) Moffett and was raised by his mother and his stepfather, J.C. Moffett.

He attended school in Madisonville and when he was 15 years old, he went to work at Roy V Dean Lumber Company until his retirement due to his health in 2023.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Eddie and Sophia Irving; aunts, Margaret Brown and Sandy Evans; and his uncle, Eddie Irving, Jr.

Melvin is survived by his wife, LaJune (Williams) Irving; his son, Marion Irving, Jr. (Rachel); his siblings, Glenda Thompson, Roy Chester Moffett (Maria), and Randy Moffett (Rosie); his grandchildren, Marion Irving, III and Ophelia Sophia Irving; his aunts, Dora Carter, Virgie Brown, and Edna Johnson; his special friend Charles Samuel; and many other family members and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Joseph Smith, Gerome Williams, Da’Voszia Mock, Jessie Ford, Charles Johnson and Lance Byrd.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Marion Irving, Jr., Randy Moffett, Quincy Johnson, James G. Smith, Trevon House and Roy Chester Moffett.
