Matthew Lee Pope, age 17, of Madisonville, Texas, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior January 10, 2023. He was the oldest of four boys, and was born in Denver, Colorado November 3, 2005 to parents, Adam Lee Pope & Leisa Marie (McCollum) Pope. He lived most of his life in Madisonville, attending Madisonville CISD, prior to being homeschooled throughout his high school years. This afforded Matthew the opportunity to work full time at a young age doing what he loved doing.... welding, working cattle and horses, as well as working at the sale barn in Navasota. He loved his mama and strived to help take care of her and his brothers. Matthew also enjoyed hog hunting in his free time. He will forever be remembered as a young man who genuinely loved the Lord, and wasn’t afraid to share Jesus with others.

Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Pope; cousin, Aaron Jones; great-aunt, Lisa Pope; great-uncle, Marlin Kerkman; great-aunt, Joy McCollum and numerous great-grandparents.

Surviving family members include mother, Leisa Pope of Madisonville; father, Adam Pope of Madisonville; brothers, Jaden, Parker & Eli Pope of Madisonville; maternal grandparents, Daniel & Connie McCollum of Madisonville; paternal grandparents, Celeste & JR Parker of Madisonville; aunts & uncles, Heidi (Kris) Clopton of Madisonville; Bryleigh (Dylan) Stobaugh of College Station and James (Tanya) Pope of New Jersey and cousins, Taycie, Kyelie, Paige, Ellie, Kayden, Ava, Lucas, Madison and Lizzy as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Funeral services honoring Matthew’s life were held 2 P.M., Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Madisonville Christian Fellowship Church, Madisonville, Texas. Committal services followed at Park Cemetery, Madisonville, Texas. Joel Douget & Jack Andrews officiated the service.

Pallbearers: Brier Wall, Kutter Wall, JW Kofenovef, Burk Brunson, Dylan Stobaugh, Wes Morris, Greg Washington, Lane Blue In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Madison County Fair Association.
