Percival Leonard “Percy” Shauger, 95, went to be his Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born on October 21, 1927, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Verne Louis and Gladys Mae (Watkins) Shauger. He was baptized into the Christian faith as a Catholic and lived a life devoted to his family.

He is survived by his brother, Kilton K. Shauger of Nevada; sisters-in-law, Martha White of Madisonville, Texas, Nancy Hummel of Madisonville, Texas, Laverne Foster of Madisonville, Texas and Madie Alston of Madisonville, Texas; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ruth Alston; parents, Verne and Gladys (Watkins) Shauger; sisters, Wanda (Anthony) Garvon and ViAnn (Alan) Sarver; and brothers, Reldon (Violet) Shauger, Leslie Shauger, Wallace Shauger, and Wesley Shauger.

Percy enlisted in the Army from 1950 to 1952 and served during the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star. He was a true Patriot and later enlisted in the Merchant Marines, where he continued to serve until he retired. Once retired, he loved helping out at the Hummel family ranch and spending time with family and friends.

He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed.

A funeral service for Mr. Shauger was held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 14, 2023, at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Bro. Glenn Connor officiated the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
