Both the varsity and junior varsity tennis squads competed in events last week and saw top finishes from a number of Madisonville competitors. On the varsity side, the duo of Chais DiSanto and Jenna Yeager earned fourth place in women’s doubles while Caymen Forrest finished fourth in men’s singles.

The Madisonville women’s basketball team forced over 30 turnovers in a 68-22 rout over Carthage in thee Bi-District playoff round in Huntington Monday. The win puts the Lady Mustangs in the Area playoffs against Burnet at Rockdale High School in Rockdale at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Madisonville tennis teams continued to battle through the early portion of their spring season with a home tournament at MHS Friday. A number of Madisonville performers garnered top finishes at the event.

Daniel Young has been hitting extremely well to begin the baseball season. The Madisonville High School graduate batted a team-best .417 through 10 games (9-1) for Tyler Junior College.

The Madisonville men’s basketball team bounced back from a pair of back-to-back district losses last week with three straight victories over Robinson Feb. 1, Mexia Saturday and China Spring Monday. The Mustangs were sitting in third place in district behind Connally and LaVega at the time of this writing.

The Madisonville women’s basketball team won their fifth straight district matchup Monday over China Spring to improve to 7-2 in league play and secure the second seed in the postseason.
