Madisonville FFA’s Ag Issues team won the State Championship during the state event at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and will represent Texas at the National FFA Contest in Indianapolis next year.

The first place Ag Issues team consists of Layla Clark, Kallie Tilton, Emma Hurst, Chase McBee, Brooke Huff and Kourtney Fleck.

Madisonville sent five teams to SHSU on Dec. 6-7, including the Jr. Chapter Conducting team, Ag Advocacy team and Junior and Senior Quiz teams. In order to advance to state, teams had to place in the top two at the district and area competitions.

“Work for these teams starts over the summer and continues through the fall semester,” said FFA coordinator Lynita Foster. “To be ‘still in the game’ in December is a great honor and we are proud of these kids for advancing to the state level.”

The Jr. Chapter Conducting team, which finished fifth in state, consists of Audree Phillips, Clay Williams, Nathan Fleck, Rayce Hudson, Caleb Corley, Jacob Cole and Samuel Cole.

The State Semi-Finalist Ag Advocacy team consists of Haley Fleck, Brinna Sims, Taylor Barrett and Madi Caperton.

The Senior Quiz team, 18th in state, consists of Brinna Sims, Courtnee Wallace, Mackenzie Foster, Garrett Underwood and Logan Fraley.

The Junior Quiz team, 23rd in state, consists of Delaney Callaham, Alyssa Kangos, Taylor Stubblefield, Avery Barker and Morgan Whitesides.

The Quiz teams’ test over the Texas and National FFA and Parliamentary Procedures consisted of statistical information and current issues from the agricultural field.

“We humbly acknowledge and thank our Father in Heaven for granting us the gift of working with these amazing young people,” said Foster. “The Madisonville Ag Department definitely has a long gratitude list.”

This list includes parents, MCISD staff and administration, community supporters, the First Baptist Church of Madisonville, substitute teachers, such as Billie Reding and Yvonne Morgan, Mrs. Betty Coleman and her crew, and Logan Bauer.
