Al, as he was known by most, was born on October 3, 1935 in Sealy, TX to Albert Bender, Sr. and Vera (Garling) Bender and was one of fourteen children. He was raised in Pledger, TX and retired from Pennzoil, after nearly thirty years of employment. He and his wife, Dorothy, soon moved to Madisonville, TX where he enjoyed working his cattle and tending to his gardens. Most importantly, Al loved serving others. He was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church where he could always be counted on when repairs were needed or a project needed to be accomplished. Al maintained the Son-Shine Outreach Center and could always be found helping others in our community.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy (Hoots) Bender; and ten of his siblings.

Al is survived by three of his siblings; Ruby Dierks, Vera Gates, and Earl Bender; his children, Rynetta Howton, Rob Bender (Kelly), and Craig Bender (Melondy); his grandchildren, Mandy Doggett, Sarah Hudson, Arthur Bender, Christopher Bender, Albert Bender, Victoria Bender, and Shawn Bender; his great grandchildren, Noah Doggett, Jordan Bender, Rebekah Doggett, and Asher Bender; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are: Terry Dean Sumner, Terry Sumner, Jr., Willis Sumner, James J. Harris, Ronald Gavin Harris, III, and James C. Sumner. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Jeremy Richards, J.R. Simons, G.G. Reynolds, James Sumner, Jr., Claude Randall, and James Reynolds.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in rememberance of Al can be made to Faith Baptist Church at 1002 South Madison Street; Madisonville, TX or Son-Shine Outreach Center at 320 North May Street; Madisonville, TX 77864.
