The 39th Annual Miss Rita’s Easter Parade was held on the Square and the First Baptist Church on Saturday and a number of local children got a chance to showcase their festive spirits during the event.

The event was started 39 years ago by Miss Rita Slaughter Davis. It was the second time the parade has been held since she passed away in July of 2017.

“(Rita) loved children and served this community in so many capacities,” said Donna O’Brien, who helped coordinate the event. “She was a great lady and left a wonderful legacy that I am honored to continue. Her greatest desire was that every child have a fun time on Easter, but more importantly that they get to hear the real story of Easter.”

The event’s sponsors are listed below:

Austin Signs; Brookshire Brothers, Carter Enterprises (Joe’s Subway, Church’s Chicken, Pizza Hut, Texas Burger); Faith Baptist Church; First Baptist Church; Madisonville Christian Fellowship; Madisonville Kawasaki; Madisonville Meteor; Madisonville Police Department; Madisonville Walmart; Mallett Brothers Barbecue; McDonald’s; Rita’s Playschool and Daycare; Sonic Drive-In; Texas Legends Steakhouse; Walkers Cafe on the Square

The event’s individual helpers were:

Afshar Family; Brianna O’Brien; Caleb and Kelsy O’Brien; Curtis and Donna O’Brien; Ethan and Brittany Craft; Jessie and Patricia Jaenicke; John Johnson; Marie Tamplin; Mark and Brenda Trichel; Mike and Linda Cousins; Rita and Billy Davis; FBC Youth Ministry
