Cemetery meeting set

The Board of Directors of the Madisonville Cemetery Association has called for a special meeting for 2 PM Thursday, June 21, at the Madisonville Cemetery.

The purpose of the meeting is to amend the Association bylaws to change the date for the annual membership meeting, which is normally held the first Saturday in August.

However, the board feels that there would be more participation if the meeting were held in a cooler part of the year, and also will consider having multiple membership meetings, rather than one.

The board also plans to discuss the enforcement of cemetery restrictions and acceptable communication/notification methods.

Immediately following this membership meeting there will be the regularly scheduled meeting of the board. Both meetings are open to the public.

FSA nominations launch

The U.S. Department of Agriculture encourages farmers and ranchers to nominate candidates to lead, serve and represent their community on the Farm Service Agency, which will accept nominations for members beginning June 15.

Producers can nominate themselves or others. Check your local USDA service center to see if your local administrative area is up for election this year. Organizations, including those representing beginning, women and minority producers, may also nominate candidates to better serve their communities.

To be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, producers must participate or cooperate in an FSA program and reside in the area where the election is being held.

Members serve three-year terms.

To be considered, a producer must sign an FSA-669A nomination form. The form and other information about FSA county committee elections are available at www.fsa.usda.gov/elections. All nomination forms for the 2018 election must be postmarked or received in the local FSA office by Aug. 1, 2018. Visit farmers.gov for more information.

Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters beginning Nov. 5, 2018.

Class reunion scheduled

The Madisonville High School classes of 1954 and 1955 will hold a joint reunion June 22-24 at First United Methodist Church Wesley Hall.

Scheduled to speak at the Sunday services will be Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Hiram “Doc” Jones, a Madison County native and a 1955 graduate. Jones served as a chaplain around the area for about six years before joining the Air Force in 1969. He was promoted to general in 1997.
