State Representative for District 57 Trent Ashby visited Madisonville CISD on Wednesday morning to participate in a roundtable discussion with the school board.
“We are fortunate to be served by a state representative who cares about rural communities and schools,” said MCISD Superintendent Keith Smith. “I feel like he has done a very good job.”
The discussion encompassed a number of topics including the state’s share of education funding and the effect it has on home owners.
They also talked about the high speed bullet train, the expansion of Highway 21, standardized testing, the current accountability system for Texas school districts as well as the role these issues play in the local community.
Ashby, a Republican, has served in the Texas House of Representatives since 2013. He is currently up for reelection against Democratic candidate Jason Rogers. The two will square off in the general election on Nov. 6.
