Baker increases playing time

Emma Baker already has played in as many volleyball matches as she did all of last year.

The North Zulch High School graduate entered Friday's action having played in five of Trinity Valley Community College's first 13 matches, equaling her total through 35 matches in 2018.

”I have been enjoying this season," she said.

In her first appearance, the sophomore defensive specialist and setter had a career-high 10 digs during a win over North Central Texas. "I've been working hard to get after points and to hustle for every point," she said, noting that she's improved her footwork to be quicker to the ball.

Baker played in a career-high four consecutive matches during early September. She had five digs and one set assist in a win over Western Texas, the third match in that span, and had one dig in the match before and after.

She graduates in December and said will not continue playing volleyball when she attends another school during the spring.

Until then, she appreciates the opportunity to extend her career beyond high school.

”I've enjoyed it a lot, especially coming from a small school," she said.

Also from North Zulch High, Raegan VanCour hit .256 in 25 games for Ranger College as a freshman outfielder last year. She had six runs batted in and four stolen bases.

Out of Madisonville High, Daniel Young is a freshman outfielder for Abilene Christian University.
