Basketball star on injured list

Injury has interrupted Tylisea Roundtree's college basketball season.

The Madisonville High School graduate played six of 14 games (4-10) for Cedar Valley College, a first-year program, before suffering a knee injury.

The tallest on the squad at 6-foot-2, the freshman center averaged 6.2 rebounds, second on the team, and 5.8 points.

She had four starts before spraining the medial collateral ligament in her knee. She isn't sure how she injured herself, but Roundtree said Dec. 4 she guesses she landed wrong while playing.

She stopped practicing Nov. 27, she said, and is supposed to visit a specialist next week.

The injury is disappointing given her solid start. As a substitute during a Nov. 26 game, she tied her season high of eight rebounds and added five points. She had a season-high 10 points in two games, the first of which she started.

"It was really quite a shock that I'm starting," said Roundtree, who did a lot of shooting and dribbling during the summer to prepare for the season. "It was like a challenge (to become a starter)."

Most of her offensive attacks come from near the basket, where the action is "more physical than what I'm used to," she said. "They're (opponents) a lot stronger."

The team plays man or zone defense, depending on size matchups. "If they are little, I'll be at the top of the zone," Roundtree said. "If they're big, I'll be at the bottom."

Bryce Bennett is a freshman right-handed pitcher for Cisco College. He played for Madisonville.
