Cager makes splash in Middle East

Basketball player Joseph Jones has made an early impact playing in the Bahrain Premier League.

The 32-year-old out of Normangee High School signed with Al Riffa in late November.

The only American on the squad, he started in his debut and had 23 points in helping the team defeat Isa Town. He led players from both teams in scoring and had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Jones had team highs of 25 points and 20 rebounds in his next game and led Al Riffa with 11 rebounds and added 15 points during a Dec. 12 win.

He played for Beirut Club in Lebanon before joining Al Riffa.

Football

Madisonville High graduate Joey McIver did not play any games Sul Ross State University. He was a freshman offensive lineman.

Women's basketball

Madisonville alumna Lexi Leveston had a season-high 12 points for Langston University against Southwestern Christian. She also had seven rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Leveston entered the holiday break as one of two Lions to start a team-high 11 of 12 games (6-6).

Senior La'Neique Nealey had five rebounds for Prairie View A & M University against Arkansas. The former Mustang had four points and one steal.

Tra'dayja Smith of Trinity Valley Community College led players from both teams with nine assists during a win over Independence Community College. The Madisonville graduate contributed five rebounds, three points and one steal.
