Madisonville junior high, junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders participated in their summer camp workouts at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine over the weekend and took advantage of a chance to compete against other squads on the final day.

The Madisonville cheer program took home the Top Spirit Award over all the 2A through 6A schools in attendance. The varsity squad took home the Top Squad Award, the Spirit Stick, a Superior Rating and First Place in Sideline Cheer for their performance. Junior high took home the Top Squad award and First in Cheer on the weekend while the JV team earned Most Improved and First Place in Sideline Cheer.

“It is very exciting to see our junior high and JV squads do so well because they mostly consist of all new cheerleaders, a bunch of eager girls willing to learn and succeed” said head cheer instructor Lori Hagaman. “Our varsity squad has a very bright year ahead of them. They are simply amazing. They will be competing in the State UIL Cheerleading Championship in January. This will be our second year to compete in this championship and we are so excited about this squad and what they will accomplish this season.”

Five Madisonville cheerleaders were presented with Pin Forward Awards for their leadership, kindness and ability to lead their squads and lend helping hands when needed. The awarded Mustangs included Catie Hagaman, Sai Sai Ly, Brooke Huff, Dada Dickey and Kate Hagaman.

Six Mustangs were also chosen as members of the All-American squad. This included Makenna Fraley, Kate Hagaman, Brooke Huff, Jaliyah Matthews, Gabby Bracewell and Darian Wayland.

The Madisonville varsity cheer squad is compiled of mostly veterans cheerleaders, but there are many new faces on the junior high and JV teams. The junior high squad has just three returning members out of their 17-member team. The JV team is also full of new faces with just one returning squad member.

Madisonville mascots ‘Roxie and Rusty the Mustang’ also impressed in Grapevine. Patrolling the mascot getups this year will be Kate Hagaman (Roxie) and CeCe Merchant (Rusty). Lori Hagaman coaches the squads along with Caryn Hagaman.
