Midway VFD dinner and dance

The Midway Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 28th annual “Po Boy” steak dinner and dance Saturday, beginning with a hospitality hour at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m. Tickets for the event, which include a 24-ounce T-bone steak with all the trimmings, are $40 and available at Lakeside Restaurant or any Midway VFD member. A dance featuring music from the Al White Band will follow the steak dinner. For more information, call Edwin at 936-348-0898.

Fort Boggy State Park Third Annual Kid Fish Clinic

Fort Boggy State Park, the Friends of Fort Boggy State Park and Texas Parks & Wildlife Fisheries Division will host the Third Annual Kid Fish Clinic Saturday and the inaugural “Family/Friends Fishin’ Frenzy” on Sunday. Both events are free, though there is a park entrance fee of $3 per adult (13 years and older). Merchandise purchased from the Friends of Fort Boggy are tax free.

The Kid Fish Clinic, with 90-minute sessions at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. is open to children aged five to 12 years, provided they turned five by Sept. 1. The first 50 walk-ins per session will receive a free rod and reel. And adult must accompany.

Sunday’s “Frenzy” is a competition for all ages, though all teams – two, three or four persons – must include a member under 17 years old. Interested parties should register at the park from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday or 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact Betty Heffler at 903-322-3478.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton International Dinner

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church will hold its annual International Dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at the church, 100 S. Tammye Lane in Madisonville. The event, which is $10 for adults and $5 for 12 and under, will feature German, Italian, Cajun, Mexican and American cuisine.

Madison County Library Spring Storytime

Spring Storytime for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers begins March 5 and continues through April 30. There is no story hour on March 26 during the Spring Break Holiday. The program begins at 10 a.m. for a 30-45 minute program that includes stories, songs, fingerplays, movement activities, poems, rhymes, feltboard activities, and a craft. Bedias Cemetery Association annual meeting

Lanier Stevens' Memorial Gospel Singing

The Midway Church of Christ will host The Lanier Stevens' Memorial Gospel Singing, March 10 in the church's Fellowship Hall. Finger food will be served at 6 p.m. and singing will start shortly thereafter. Dennis Ivey will be hosting the event and anyone who likes to sing, play an instrument or just listen to gospel and country music is invited to attend.

Free mammograms

The Texas Cancer Screening, Training, Education and Prevention Program, or Texas C-STEP, will offer free mammograms from their mobile unit March 18 at Madisonville First Baptist Church. C-STEP is a program conducted through the Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine Center and funded by the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas. The free mammograms are offered to uninsured women in the Madison County area, age 40-49 who haven’t had a mammogram in one year and age 50-74 with no mammogram in the past two years. Appointments must be scheduled by March 4 by calling 979-436-0453 or 979-436-0443.

Tanyard UMC Easter Celebration

Tanyard United Methodist Church, 9866 Ranyard Lane in Midway, will host an Easter program at 2 p.m. April 12 featuring speeches, an Easter message from Minister Jocquavian (Joc) Hawkins of the Full Gospel Holy Temple in Dallas, an Easter egg hunt and surprises for children and refreshments. Guest churches include Two Mile United Methodist Church, Wilson Chapel Church of God in Christ and other churches in the surrounding area. DAR World War II project

The Captain John McAdams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is compiling for publication the preservation of Madison County history during World War II. Members are calling for people in the county to research and write a true story of how World War II affected their family during the difficult time. Submit stories to the designated box location in the lobbies of local banks, the Madison County Library, the Madison County Museum, the Madison County Courthouse and Walker’s Café by July 31. Head Start

BVCAP Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. Head Start provides a rich, developmentally appropriate educational curriculum, social services to help with everyday needs of life, mental health services and nutrition services. Parenting class

Safe Families of Brazos Valley hosts a parenting class at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for adults 18 years or older.

The class continues every Thursday until May 16, and meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Topics include communication, family fun, problem solving and more. Dinner and childcare provided.

American Legion Quarterly Vendors Market

The American Legion Post 335 will host a Vendors Market each quarter through 2020 to continue to support and serve Leon County Veterans and Active Military. The markets will be held at the American Legion building, 346 N. Hwy 75 in Centerville (1 mile north of the city square). Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Dates of the Saturday markets will include a special “Twas the Saturday Before Christmas” market on Dec. 21, Feb. 15, May 16, August 15 and Nov. 21.

Post 335 requests vendors to fill spots available indoors and outdoors for larger vendors with specialty furniture, lawn/garden, Food Trucks/Tents, etc. The fee will be $30 per 10’X10’ spot and $40 per 10’X10’ spot if need electricity (indoor only).

Adult GED (general education diploma) classes will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at 714 Bacon St. in Madisonville. There is no charge for attending.

English as a Second Language classes will be held Mondays from 5-9 p.m. Classes are free to attend.

A free community grief program for pet loss will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. the second Saturday each month at the Mending Hearts Grief Center, 2112 Southwood Drive, in College Station.
