Rock Hounds Etc. monthly meeting

Rock Hounds Etc. will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday First United Methodist church, 102 S. McIver (corner off hwy. 21). Those interest in knowing more about rocks, minerals, fossils, Native American tools are welcome. The Rock Hounds offer a pot luck meal (visitors don't bring food), fellowship and occasional field trip and door prizes. The Rock Hounds meet the second Thursday of each month. There are no dues.

Lanier Stevens' Memorial Gospel Singing

The Midway Church of Christ will host The Lanier Stevens' Memorial Gospel Singing, Tuesday in the church's Fellowship Hall. Finger food will be served at 6 p.m. and singing will start shortly thereafter. Dennis Ivey will be hosting the event and anyone who likes to sing, play an instrument or just listen to gospel and country music is invited to attend.

Chamber of Commerce annual/monthly meeting

The Madison County Chamber of Commerce will hold an annual/monthly meeting today, noon to 1 p.m. in The Kimbro Center. To RSVP, contact 936-348-3591.

Miracles in Madisonville

Living Truth Church, 1100 May St. in Madisonville, will host Miracles in Madisonville, a four-day program featuring Jeff Taylor, Sunday-March 18. Events include a service at 10:30 a.m. March 15, a 7 p.m. healing service on March 16, a 7 p.m. impartation service on March 17 and a 7 p.m. prophetic service on March 18.

Free mammograms

The Texas Cancer Screening, Training, Education and Prevention Program, or Texas C-STEP, will offer free mammograms from their mobile unit March 18 at Madisonville First Baptist Church. C-STEP is a program conducted through the Texas A&M Physicians Family Medicine Center and funded by the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas. The free mammograms are offered to uninsured women in the Madison County area, age 40-49 who haven’t had a mammogram in one year and age 50-74 with no mammogram in the past two years. Appointments must be scheduled by March 4 by calling 979-436-0453 or 979-436-0443.

Huntsville Christian Women’s Connection March luncheon

The Huntsville Christian Women’s Connection will host a luncheon March 19 at Elkins Lake Clubhouse, 632 Cherry Hills Drive in Huntsville. Visiting starts at 11 a.m., then the lunch and program are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations are necessary. Speaker for the luncheon will be Shaaron Rowland, Baylor graduate, speed reading teacher and the director of a ladies ensemble choral group. Cost of the luncheon is $15.00. Midway Citywide Cleanup

The city of Midway and Waste Connections will join for the Spring 2020 Citywide Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21 and noon to 5 p.m. on March 22. Dumpsters will be staged in the Church of Christ parking lot across from the Midway City Hall and there will be assistance for residents to get items into the dumpsters. Freon, paint, tires, oils, batteries, hazardous waste and chemicals are not allowed. For more information, contact city hall at 936-348-6800.

St. Thomas More Fish Fry

St. Thomas More Catholic Church will hold its Spring Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 28, at the Community Center at Hilltop Lakes. Cost for fried fish with all the trimmings is $12 for adults and $5 for children. Raffle tickets, crafts and delicious desserts will be available for purchase. Raffle prizes include a $500 Visa gift card, STIHL MS 171 chainsaw, Grand Station fun package for five, RTIC Soft Pack 30 cooler, private dinner for four at The Place, and a $50 gift certificate to Ronin Restaurant.

Tanyard UMC Easter Celebration

Tanyard United Methodist Church, 9866 Ranyard Lane in Midway, will host an Easter program at 2 p.m. April 12 featuring speeches, an Easter message from Minister Jocquavian (Joc) Hawkins of the Full Gospel Holy Temple in Dallas, an Easter egg hunt and surprises for children and refreshments. Guest churches include Two Mile United Methodist Church, Wilson Chapel Church of God in Christ and other churches in the surrounding area. Fort Boggy State Park rainbow trout fishing

Fort Boggy State Park has been stocked with over 2,700 rainbow trout from Texas Parks and Wildlife Fisheries. Park gates will open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Entrance fee is $3 per person (13 years and older) and no fishing license is required. Fort Boggy is a participant in the Angler Education “Tackle Loaner Program,” which means individuals can borrow rods, reels and tackle boxes with hooks, sinkers and bobbers during office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays.

Madison County Library Spring Storytime

Spring Storytime for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers begins Thursday and continues through April 30. There is no story hour on March 26 during the Spring Break Holiday. The program begins at 10 a.m. for a 30- to 45-minute program that includes stories, songs, fingerplays, movement activities, poems, rhymes, feltboard activities, and a craft. DAR World War II project

The Captain John McAdams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is compiling for publication the preservation of Madison County history during World War II. Members are calling for people in the county to research and write a true story of how World War II affected their family during the difficult time. Submit stories to the designated box location in the lobbies of local banks, the Madison County Library, the Madison County Museum, the Madison

Head Start

BVCAP Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. Head Start provides a rich, developmentally appropriate educational curriculum, social services to help with everyday needs of life, mental health services and nutrition services. Parenting class

Safe Families of Brazos Valley hosts a parenting class at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for adults 18 years or older.

The class continues every Thursday until May 16, and meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Topics include communication, family fun, problem solving and more. Dinner and childcare provided.

American Legion Quarterly Vendors Market

The American Legion Post 335 will host a Vendors Market each quarter through 2020 to continue to support and serve Leon County Veterans and Active Military. The markets will be held at the American Legion building, 346 N. Hwy 75 in Centerville (1 mile north of the city square). Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Dates of the Saturday markets will include a special “Twas the Saturday Before Christmas” market on Dec. 21, Feb. 15, May 16, August 15 and Nov. 21.

Post 335 requests vendors to fill spots available indoors and outdoors for larger vendors with specialty furniture, lawn/garden, Food Trucks/Tents, etc. The fee will be $30 per 10’X10’ spot and $40 per 10’X10’ spot if need electricity (indoor only).

Madisonville GED and ESL Classes

Adult GED (general education diploma) classes will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at 714 Bacon St. in Madisonville. There is no charge for attending.

English as a Second Language classes will be held Mondays from 5-9 p.m. Classes are free to attend.
