Shiloh MBC Thanksgiving dinner

Shiloh MBC will host its first Community Thanksgiving Dinner, 11 a.m. tomorrow in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The church will offer turkey with all the trimmings. Shiloh MBC is located at 205 South MLK in Madisonville.

Madisonville Christian Fellowship Thanksgiving meal

Madisonville Christian Fellowship, 3973 State Highway 21 E. in Madisonville, will host a community-wide Thanksgiving meal from noon to 3 p.m. tomorrow at the church. They will serve until all food is gone. A box will be available for donations of jackets, gloves, hats and personal hygiene items.

Winter Storytime at library

Winter Storytime for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers at the Madison County Library begins Dec. 5 and continues through Feb. 27, with some holiday closures. Storytime begins every Thursday at 10 a.m. for a 30- to 45-minute program of stories, songs, poems, rhymes, fingerplays, feltboard activities, movement activities, and crafts. The library will host a Christmas party on Dec. 19 and a Valentine party on Feb. 13. Registration is required. Please come by the library at 605 S. May St. or call 936-348-6118 for more information.

Second Shepherd’s Play in Bryan

The Blinn College-Bryan Campus Theatre Arts Program will stage a medieval mystery play in December called The Second Shepherd’s Play, featuring comic and spiritual themes: Preceding the story of the visitation by the shepherds to the manger to see the newborn Christ, the shepherds must first rescue a lamb snatched by a renowned sheep-stealer.

The play will be presented at two free outdoor performances at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 6 on the front steps of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bryan.

During the play, West 26th Street in front of the church will be closed for the performance. Guests are invited to bring chairs or blankets and watch the action from the street.

Journey Through Bethlehem

The annual Journey Through Bethlehem, a presentation of Bethlehem as it was on the night Jesus was born will be held from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 6-7 at the Walker County Fairgrounds located at 3925 State Highway 30, Huntsville, TX. Visitors will experience live animals and scores of volunteers dressed in time period clothing sharing customs, food, crafts, and trades as they may have been in Bethlehem when shepherds arrived seeking the Christ Child. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Advent activities

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church released their calendar for Advent: Sundays at 4:00 pm, Evening prayer, Benediction and preview readings for upcoming Sunday.

Angelus prayer given to all families to pray during Advent. It’s the story of the Annunciation and more.

Head Start

BVCAP Head Start is a preschool program that provides comprehensive educational social services to eligible children. Head Start provides a rich, developmentally appropriate educational curriculum, social services to help with everyday needs of life, mental health services and nutrition services. Parenting class

Safe Families of Brazos Valley hosts a parenting class at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church for adults 18 years or older.

The class continues every Thursday until May 16, and meets from 5:30-7 p.m. Topics include communication, family fun, problem solving and more. Dinner and childcare provided.

American Legion Quarterly Vendors Market

The American Legion Post 335 will host a Vendors Market each quarter through 2020 to continue to support and serve Leon County Veterans and Active Military. The markets will be held at the American Legion building, 346 N. Hwy 75 in Centerville (1 mile north of the city square). Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Dates of the Saturday markets will include a special “Twas the Saturday Before Christmas” market on Dec. 21, Feb. 15, May 16, August 15 and Nov. 21.

Post 335 requests vendors to fill spots available indoors and outdoors for larger vendors with specialty furniture, lawn/garden, Food Trucks/Tents, etc. The fee will be $30 per 10’X10’ spot and $40 per 10’X10’ spot if need electricity (indoor only).

Adult GED (general education diploma) classes will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at 714 Bacon St. in Madisonville. There is no charge for attending.

English as a Second Language classes will be held Mondays from 5-9 p.m. Classes are free to attend.

A free community grief program for pet loss will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. the second Saturday each month at the Mending Hearts Grief Center, 2112 Southwood Drive, in College Station.
