Construction will start in the summer on OSR which will lead to the road to be closed to through traffic at different times.
The project will go out to bid in June, and crews will start turning dirt within the next three months after, according to Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Bobby Colwell.
This project is from the Navasota River to 6.5 miles east of FM 39, near Pond Branch Creek, and consists of the rehabilitation and widening of OSR, making it 30 feet wide with two 11-foot lanes with 4-foot shoulders.
It also includes five bridge replacements — Cottonwood Creek, Red Bank Creek, Branch of Carryall Creek, Carryall Creek and East Caney Creek.
The traffic control plan needed to construct this project is:
•Section 1 — Brazos County Line (Navasota River) to FM 1452
•Section 2 — FM 1452 to Normangee’s West City limits
•Section 3 — Normangee’s West City Limits to Normangee’s East City Limits
•Section 4 — Normangee’s East City Limits to FM 2289
•Section 5 — FM 2289 to Pond Branch Creek
The bridges will be under construction during the rehab and will have one-lane two-way traffic using temporary portable traffic signals.
The sections that will have the roadway closures will be Section 1, 2, 4 and 5. The roadway closure should only be to through traffic. Local landowners should be able to get to their property. Each section with road closures will have a milestone timeline.
The Milestones will have incentives to open the roadway section early and go into liquidated damages if they take too long. Each section is to be completed within the following amount of days:
•Section 1 — 35 days
•Section 2 — 93 days
•Section 4 — 26 days
•Section 5 — 83 days
The total time calculated for the project to be completed is 18 months with the latest starting month being September.
After everything is set up to start construction, the contractor will:
•Rehab FM 1452 and OSR intersection.
•Close the roadway to through traffic for Section 1 after the FM 1452 intersection work is complete.
•Once Section 1 is built and open to through traffic, close the roadway to through traffic for Section 2.
•Place second OCST on Section 1.
•Once Section 2 is built and open to through traffic, rehab FM 2289 and OSR intersection.
•Place second OCST on Section 2.
•Close the roadway to through traffic for Section 4, after the FM 2289 intersection work is complete.
•Once Section 4 is built and open to through traffic, close the roadway to through traffic for Section 5.
•Place second OCST on Section 4.
•Once Section 5 is built and open to through traffic, build Section 3 while keeping road open to traffic.
•Place second OCST on Section 5.
•Place third OCST
•Place signing, striping, and do final cleanup.
