On Friday, Feb. 16, there will be a Daddy-Daughter Dance. This fun-filled evening will be hosted by the Iola High School Student Council. There will be dancing, sweet treats and fun activities. It will be held in the elementary cafeteria.

The Daddy daughter dance is open to all pre-k through sixth grade girls who attend or live within the Iola ISD district boundaries. The dance will be from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $15 per couple with $5 for each additional daughter. Payment and forms are due by Feb. 11 and can be turned into the elementary or high school front office. Late registration will not be accepted and tickets are not sold at the door. If you are not able to attend after registering, please contact csmith@iolaisd.net for a refund.

•It’s time to cut and turn in those Box Tops. This is a quick and easy way to raise money for Iola elementary. Simply cut the Box Tops off the products you already have purchased, place in a Ziploc bag, and send them with your child to stuff their homeroom Box Top pig.

Each classroom will have a chance of winning a first-place pizza party or a second-place popsicle party. The deadline for Box Tops is Feb. 22. To assist our Box Top volunteers, please clip Box Top around the dotted lines before putting into to the Ziplock baggy.

•The Sixth Annual Iola VFD Benefit and BBQ Cookoff will be held March 8-9 at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, 23574 Brazos St. There are three categories for the meat entries — brisket, chicken and pork spare ribs. There is an entry fee of $185 for the meat categories, and there will be a $3,500 cash payout, based on entry of 25 teams, and a fee of $20 for each side category with a 50 percent payout for first place.

Also, there will be live music and a dance. Come out and listen to the Texas 105 Band and Clay Hollis Band.

For additional information or for an enrollment form, email iolavfdcookoff@hotmail.com. Follow us on FB — Iola VFD Cook-Off Fundraiser. This event is sanctioned by the IBCA (International BBQ Cookers Association).
