District honors diamond seniors

Five Madisonville baseball and softball seniors were named to their respective All-District teams for the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was something that we decided to do as a district for the seniors with the season cut short to honor them in whatever aspect we could,” said MHS head baseball coach Adam Borgfeld. “We did it to give a little closure to everything after an unfortunate end to this season.”

The Madisonville baseball seniors honored were Dylan Stanley (pitcher), Kody Nye (first base), Colby Shepherd (second base) and Tyler Ketchum (outfielder) represented the baseball team.

Brinna Sims qualified from the Lady Mustangs softball team as the lone senior and an outfielder.

“(Sims) was an essential player for the team,” said head softball coach Ashley Renner. “She is selfless and always puts her teammates first. She always was willing to do anything to help the team. I believe every team needs a Brinna Sims and we will miss her energy, hustle and enthusiasm.”

“I am very surprised due to the fact that the season was cut short and I did not get much of a chance to show my skills because I was also playing soccer and my time was split between two sports,” said Sims. “But it is a great honor and I am so grateful for the coaches who have pushed and motivated me to become the player and woman I am today.”

Both the baseball and softball seasons were halted shortly before district play was scheduled to begin along with all other extracurricular activities.
