Memorial services for Dr. Cecil Odell Harper, Jr., 70, of Bedias, were held Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Madisonville. The Rev. Cindy Clark officiated the service.
Dr. Cecil Odell Harper Jr. was born Dec. 20, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Cecil Odell, Sr. and Lois (Tanner) Harper. He had received a Ph.D. in American History and worked as college professor. Dr. Harper was active in the Texas Historical Society, as well as National History Day. He also served as the college liaison for Nimitz High School in Aldine. Dr. Harper had lived in Bedias for the past four years, coming from Houston and was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Madisonville. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and raising goats, llamas and pigs on his farm.
Dr. Harper passed away Jan. 2, 2019, in Bryan. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister, Kathy Richardson. Surviving family members include his wife, Alice Diane Smith of Bedias; sons, Barry Harper of Bedias and Bryce Harper (Katie) of Spring; daughters, Alyssa Molina (Juan) of Sealy, Amanda Harper of Spring and Kimberlee Ball (Sam) of Spring; stepson, Zach Smith (Mylan Phung) of Eastland; brother, Ricky Harper (Debbie Ferris) of McKinney; and sister, Debbie Morse of The Woodlands. Dr. Harper is also survived by 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
