Era (Spillars) Berrier, 94, of Madisonville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, in Pasadena, TX. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, with the burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Normangee. A visitation was held prior to the service. The Rev. Joshua Crutchfield officiated.
Era was born June 30, 1924 in the Ten Mile Community in Madison County to J.D. Spillars, Sr. and Sudie (Stewart) Spillars. She worked for many years at the Pasadena Independent School District, and upon her retirement, moved back with her husband, Wayne, to the Greenbriar Community in Madison County.
Era was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Peggy Alford; her daughter-in-law, Karen Berrier; her twin sister, Vera Standley; and her other siblings, J.D. Spillars Jr., Cora Hand (known to her family as "Sister"), Velma Jaap (known to her family as "Tincy"), and Norman Spillars (known to her family as "Sonny").
Era is survived by her son, David Berrier; her grandson, Britt Berrier and his wife, Erin; her grandson, Koy Alford and his wife, Amber; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kylee and Kaden; her brother, Melvin Spillars (known to her family as "Mutt"); her sister, Betty Gilbert; and numerous other family members.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill McVey, Howard Garner, Gary Tugwell, Jimmy Tugwell, Jerry Haynes and Ray Brown.
The family is very grateful for the loving care provided to Era by Pam Nelson and Grace Cochran.
In honor of Era's memory and for her love of children, memorials may be given to the children's ministry at First Baptist Church, 300 S. Elm St., Madisonville, TX 77864.
