A mistaken posting of a past agenda for the regular Madisonville City Council meeting led to a postponement until 6 p.m. Thursday evening at Madisonville City Hall.
Under Texas’ Open Meetings Act, governmental bodies must physically post the details of a planned meeting at least 72 hours in advance at the site of the meeting. A mistake caught by city officials on Monday meant pushing the meeting to at least Thursday.
An agenda from an earlier meeting this year was posted to the door of City Hall, which meant the public notice was insufficient to meet the state requirements. An agenda posted on the city’s website and sent electronically to some people was actually correct, but Texas requires the notice physically posted at the site.
It will be a busy week for council members, as they also have a scheduled public hearing on the proposed 2020 tax rate at 5:30 p.m. today.
