FFA students qualify for state

A number of Madisonville FFA members shined at the Area level last week at Stephen F. Austin University after finishing first or second in the district contests.

“Madisonville FFA represented our school well, winning the overall sweepstakes award for best combined team performance,” said FFA coordinator Lynita Foster. “Our school also advanced three teams to state, which will be held at Sam Houston State University on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.”

The Senior Quiz team was one of three Madisonville FFA squads to qualify for state at the end of the month. Team members included Courtnee Wallace (First High Individual), Garrett Underwood (Second High Individual), Barrett Whitesides and Brinna Sims.

The Senior Skills team also qualified for state with a second place finish. The group was comprised of Madison Counsil, Monica Moreno, Maddie Kelso and Austin Longoria.

The Junior Quiz team was the third Madisonville group to qualify for state with a second place finish. Team members were Daniel Torres (Second High Individual), Makenzie Foster (Third High Individual), Sam Stevens, Ciarra Merchant and Kyndall Creighton.

The Junior Chapter Conducting teams placed third at SFA with team members Layla Clark, Tyler George, Kaylie Smith, Meagan Anderson, Cooper Staley, Caymen Forrest, Jenna Yeager, Gracie Vance and Christasia Fite.
