First confirmed case of virus hits county

Posted

The first confirmed case of COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, in Madison County was revealed to county officials Wednesday morning, according to the Madison County Office of Emergency Management.

In a Facebook post, Madison County Judge Tony Leago announced the finding.

“The patient is a 40-50 year-old female. She is not hospitalized and is self-quarantined at this time.  I would like to ask that all citizens continue to follow the Governor’s Orders and Madison County’s Stay Safe Order. I would also encourage all citizens, when in public, to wear gloves and masks as protective measures, in addition to practicing social distancing and following safe hygiene practices.

“Madison County leaders remain committed to protecting the public from this virus. We will continue to report positive, confirmed tests while adhering to federal privacy laws that are in place to protect patient confidentiality.”
