Former Bulldog twins continue their careers

NORTH ZULCH — Former Lady Bulldog basketball standouts Kiera and Kyela Cosby will continue their academic and athletic careers after signing with Sul Ross State University in Alpine.

The twins received multiple awards on and off the court throughout their time at North Zulch and will look to continue that process at SRSU.

“This is just a great accomplishment for these young ladies,” said coach David Graves, who assisted the Bulldogs when the twins were on the team and handled their recruiting and workouts. “They are hard workers and dedicated to the process. Both have completed a year of college with 4.0 GPAs.”

While at North Zulch, the ladies dominated in the classroom and on the court. They helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to one of the best finishes in program history with an overall record of 21-4 and a perfect 12-0 in district.

“The twins are the kind of kids that will be successful no matter what they do,” said Graves. “We as a school and community are so proud of them as they prepare to take that next step. This is a great time to be a Bulldog and we want to continue to show that great things are happening here. We will continue to push our athletes to reach the highest of accomplishments.”

The Lobos of Sul Ross State University compete in the American Southwest Conference. Last season, they finished 7-9 in the ASC and 10-16 overall and were eliminated by UT-Dallas in the opening round of the conference tournament. UT-Dallas went on to win the conference tournament.

The Lobos are led by Katie Novak Peebles, who was hired in April of this year. Before SRSU, she served as an assistant and strength coach at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Peebles will be assisted by graduate students Breanna Birmingham and Gabriela Mendonca.

The basketball schedule is yet to be released, but the Lobo season began on Nov. 5 last season. ASC conference play began on Dec. 17.

The twins graduated from North Zulch in the spring of 2016. Kyela attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Keira went to Sam Houston University. Neither played basketball during that year. They will have freshman standing as athletes when they suit up for the Lobos.
