The fifth annual Iola VFD benefit and Barbecue cookoff is right around the corner on March 9-10. This will take place at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, 23574 Brazos St., in Iola. There will be live auctions and live music/dance. $185.00 entry fee for the cookoff for meat category brisket, chicken, and pork spare ribs is $185, and there will be a cas payout of $3,500 (based on the entry of 25 teams). There is a $20 for each side category with a 50 percent payout for first place beans and open class (meat). Live music will include the Clay Hollis Band.

There will be a crawfish boil Friday, March 9. The cost will be $10 per plate. There will be a band playing that evening as well.

•Varsity baseball will attend a tournament in Franklin from March 8-10.
The Lady Bulldogs' softball team will play Mumford on March 9 at 5 p.m.
