The Madisonville golf team concluded their season with a ninth place finish in the Regional Tournament at Raven Nest Golf Course in Huntsville last week.
“The outcome was not what we wanted,” said Madisonville golf coach Russell Smith on the outing. “But what a great season it was, especially after losing the caliber of players that we had last year.”
The 2019 Mustangs, who sent members of their team to state a season ago, still managed to win four tournaments on the year. This included a district championship at Tri-County Country Club in Fairfield at the beginning of the month.
The first day in Huntsville featured unfavorable weather conditions and included a lightning delay around 1:30 p.m. Brylen Mills led the Mustangs with an impressive performance that left him just two strokes short of qualifying for the state tournament in Kyle next month. He earned a fourth place medalist for his scores of 82 and 77, only three advanced to state. His score of 77 on day two was the second-best out of all the golfers.
Other competing Madisonville golfers in the Regional Tournament were Brandon Larson, Brad Rudis, Jordan Baker and Max Allen.
