Hunt still on for Brookshire Brothers robber

An employee of the Brookshire Brothers grocery story in Normangee, who showed up at the store in uniform only to allegedly rob the place is still on the run, according to Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis.

“We are still looking for him and being assisted by other agencies,” said Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis. “But he is still at large.”

David Allen Malone, an employee of the chain’s location in Montgomery who had recently transferred to the Normangee store, is accused of entering the Normangee store unarmed on Sept. 23, demanding money and walking out with an undisclosed amount.

Officials are yet to release details on what he took from the store.

Malone, who was still employed by the Brookshire Brothers at the time, can be seen on the store’s security camera during the robbery.

In a Facebook post about the incident, Leon County Crime Stoppers characterized the matter as aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Texas defines aggravated robbery as one where the perpetrator causes serious bodily injury to another, uses or exhibits a deadly weapon, causes bodily injury to another person or threatens or places another person in fear of imminent bodily injury or death, if the other person is 65 or older or disabled (having a mental, physical, or developmental disability who is substantially unable to protect himself from harm.)

Leon County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 for information on the whereabouts of Malone. Anyone with any knowledge of Malone’s whereabouts may call the Leon County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-234-8477 (TIPS) or contact the Leon County Sheriff’s Department or Normangee Police Department. Callers may remain anonymous.
