Services for James Manning, 82, of Tyler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant, were held Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David O. Dykes officiating. Burial followed at Madisonville City Cemetery in Madisonville, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home, with Duane NeSmith officiating.
Mr. Manning passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, in Tulsa, Okla. He was born April 1, 1936, in Madisonville to Melvin and Ozelle Manning.
James was a member and deacon of Green Acres Baptist Church and a member of the Sammy Rhodes Bible Study and Rambling Roses Square Dance Club. He served faithfully with Meals on Wheels (more than 20 years), GABC Ramp Builders, GABC WIN Ministry, AARP (prepared taxes for 21 years) and donated more than 42 gallons of blood.
He graduated from Sam Houston State University. He held the position of Senior Systems Analyst with AMOCO (his employer of 33 years).
James was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Grantham and husband Ross; a brother, Lloyd Manning; and brother-in-law, Joe Hall. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 60 years, Janice; his children, Brad Manning, Jan Vogt and husband Gary, and Kim Thomas and husband Philip; and grandchildren Shelby Vogt, Adam Vogt, Rachel Thomas, Jamie Manning, Nathan Thomas, Sabrina Lappin and Lucy Vogt. He is also survived by his sisters, Earlene Hall and Aileen NeSmith and husband Bobby; sister-in-law, Wanda Manning; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers were Gary Vogt, Phillip Thomas, Adam Vogt, Nathan Thomas, Stan Hall, Steve Hall, Larry Grantham, Rusty Manning and Duane NeSmith. Honorary pallbearers were the Sammy Rhodes Bible Study Class and GABC Ramp Builders.
Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel, 1607 Troup Hwy, Tyler.
