Junior Varsity and Junior High notes

The JV Lady Mustangs battled the Coldspring Lady Trojans last week and won a tight contest by a score of 37-35. It was a back-and-forth game throughout and Martasia Chambers led the way for Madisonville with 18 points on the night. Briana Herron recorded a basket late to tie the game up at 35 and she also hit a pair of three throws that would give them the lead for good.

The Junior High Lady Mustangs basketball teams fought hard against a tough district opponent last week and split four decisions. The 8th grade ‘A' team dropped a one-point contest by a score of 32-31. Makayla Ford posted 12 points and coaches saw great hustle and effort from Jerkayla Dickey. The 8th grade ‘B’ team was able to pick up a 17-16 victory in their contest. Madisonville’s Ariana Goffney led the team with 8 points, including a free throw that would seal the one-point victory. The 7th grade ‘A’ team won their game by a score of 29-25 and were led in scoring by Ke’myreul Wheaton and Olivia Brooks, who each posted 12. The 7th grade ‘B’ team was defeated 25-6.

All four Madisonville Jr. High boys basketball teams picked up wins on the road in Fairfield last week. The 8th grade ‘A’ team jumped out to a quick lead but allowed Fairfield back in and competed in a back-and-forth contest. The Mustang bench was very productive with several points and caused turnovers. Casey Holiday led the team in scoring and the Mustangs pulled out a close, 49-44 decision. The 8th grade ‘B’ team as led in scoring by Charles Wallace and competed in an intense game that came down to the last few seconds. They handled the pressure and pulled off a 21-17 win. The 7th grade ‘A’ team built a substantial first quarter lead and never looked back. Aidan Juarez led the way in a big, 40-9 victory. The 7th grade ‘B’ team showed great communication mixed with a strong defensive effort that nearly resulted in a shutout. Terrance Aragon led the way in a 27-1 win.
