Lady Mustangs conclude season

The Madisonville women’s soccer team dropped their Area playoff game last Tuesday by a score of 15-0 to Brazosport in Sealy after a thrilling finish in the opening round.

“We fell a little short of what I thought we were capable of doing this season,” said Madisonville women’s soccer coach Travis Rasbeary. “But we have a lot of starters returning next season. With as many young players as we have, I’m very excited to see how we’ll look in about a year or so.”

The Lady Mustangs took down Kashmere 2-1 in the opening round of the playoffs to advance to Brazosport in Sealy. After they eliminated Madisonville, the Exporters then dropped their quarterfinals matchup to Bellville by a score of 3-2.

This was the same round Madisonville was knocked off in last year’s postseason and concludes the first year under coach Rasbeary. It also concludes the Lady Mustang careers of seniors Cielo Torres, Odalys Hernandez and Kiera Wanza.

“My upperclassmen have definitely been a great resource that I was glad to have this season,” said Rasbeary. “I also think that they have certainly left a tradition behind them that our future players will want to be a part of for a long time.”

The Lady Mustangs finished second in district despite a slow start to the season that saw many cancelations due to weather. The majority of the team will return next season with two playoff games of experience to work with.
