Lady Mustangs earn All-District honors

A number of members from the Madisonville soccer team were given All-District honors for their contributions this season, including Offensive MVP for freshman Lakin Pennington.

“(Pennington) has definitely been a great addition to our program,” said Coach Travis Rasbeary. “Her ability to score goals is superb and her teammates had the ability this year to play her some superb opportunities. I am definitely excited to see her grow over the next couple of seasons. To have a girl who can score over 40 goals in a season is amazing, but to have one score that many as a freshman is unheard of.”

Along with Pennington's MVP, five members of the Lady Mustangs were selected to the district's first team. This includes Brinna Sims, Samantha VaZquez, Diana Rodriguez, Mariela Garcia and Alyssa Espino.

“It is definitely a proud moment as a coach to see that your players are thought so highly of that they would win such accomplishments,” said Rasbeary. “All of these young ladies that have won a district award prove their dedication to be some of the top competitors in the district.”

Second Team All-District members from Madisonville include Brianna Abad, Kayla Basinger and Erika Lopez.

Estrella Quintero and Jeimy Martinez were honorable mentions while Andrea Hinojosa was named Newcomer of the Year.

The Lady Mustangs concluded their most succesful season in program history with a loss in the Bi-District playoffs last week.
