The Madisonville women’s soccer team split a pair of district matchups over the week with a 3-0 victory to Westwood March 3 and a 4-0 loss to Mexia Friday. The Lady Mustangs entered Tuesday’s Senior Night matchup against Crockett with a 4-2 record in district.

Those seniors honored at MHS Tuesday were Brianna Abad, Brinna Sims, Diana Rodriguez, Maria Ayala, Mariela Garcia and Alex Gonzalez.

“(Senior Night) will be extremely emotional for me,” said head coach Travis Rasbeary prior to Tuesday’s festivities. “I taught most of these seniors in class as sophomores and have been able to watch them grow and become amazing soccer players and even better young ladies. It is going to be hard to say goodbye to these young ladies as a coach because they have been such an integral part of our team.”

On March 3, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Westwood and defeated the Panthers for the second time this season by a score of 3-0. Madisonville needed a shootout to defeat them in the first round of district play Feb. 14.

“I knew we had the potential to play so much better (Feb. 14) and I think we showed how good we are in the second round,” said Rasbeary.

Sims scored all three goals for the Lady Mustangs in the shutout victory while Jaylen Downard and Kayla Basinger added assists.

The team fell into third place in district Friday with a 4-0 loss to Mexia. Madisonville won the first matchup 2-0 on Feb. 18.

“We played an extremely off game (Friday),” said Rasbeary. “I think we were playing as individuals in the first half and Mexia exploited that. We came together in the second half, but by then the damage was already done.”

The Lady Mustangs were scheduled to conclude their district season with a road matchup at Palestine March 17. Palestine defeated Madisonville 10-0 at MHS Feb. 25.
