Lady Mustangs prepare for district

The Madisonville women’s soccer team dropped a road contest in Hudson Friday by a score of 8-0 before concluding their non-district slate against Hempstead Tuesday. The Lady Mustangs were scheduled to battle Liberty Jan. 28, but the matchup was canceled due to weather.

“(Hudson) was a very good team with most of their girls playing competitively all year on club teams,” said head coach Travis Rasbeary. “I told the girls at halftime that right now my concern was not the score, but how we were playing.”

Rasbeary pegged Tuesday’s matchup against Hempstead as a good opportunity to see how the team will stack up against district opponents.

“I am very confident in our ability, the problem right now is consistency,” said Rasbeary. “We have spent some time going back to the basics by picking smart passes and not rushing anything, which I think has been the weakest part of our game lately.”

The team will have a scheduled bye slot Friday in preparation for district play in New Waverly Tuesday. The district also consists of Westwood, Mexia, Crockett and Palestine.

The team’s first home district matchup will come Feb. 14 against Westwood at 5:30 p.m.
