Local dancers seize the day

The Carpe Diem Dance and Fitness Studio in Madisonville sent multiple competitors to Austin for a Dance Showcase USA competition at the end of March and came home with a wide array of awards covering multiple age groups.

β€œI honestly think it is incredible,” said Sheree Wiseman, who owns the studio with her husband Jay Wiseman. β€œIt was an eye-opener when we opened the studio five years ago. These kids have learned an incredible amount of stuff in a short amount of time.”

Dancers from ages four to 16 competed from Carpe Diem and four-year-old Raylee Malloy was one of the representatives to take home an Elite Platinum award, the highest honor offered. This was the first year Carpe Diem sent someone this young to compete.

The majority of dances were choreographed by 19-year-old instructor Peyton Wiseman. She is the daughter of Sheree and Jay and won a choreography award for her efforts at the same competition last year at the age of 18.

Other instructors included Avery Weiss, Jordan Wise and Taylor Swearingen.

The areas of dance covered included solos, trios, duets and group dances to everything from jazz and hip-hop music to contemporary. The complete and lengthy list of winners from Carpe Diem reads as follows:
