Local students earn conservation awards

The Freestone County Soil & Water Conservation District and Anderson-Houston Soil & Water Conservation District hosted their Annual Land/HomeSite Career Development Contest on March 7 at the Amerada Ranch in Fairfield.

Winners on the HomeSite Judging side were Adrian Edwards from Madisonville FFA (First Place), Blake Georg from Madisonville FFA (Second Place), Maddie Tharp from Teague FFA (Third Place) and the Freestone County SWCD Scholarship winner was Emily Bonner from Fairfield FFA.

Winners on the Land Judging side were Ian Fitzgerald from Teague FFA (First Place), Cayden LeBlanc from Grapeland FFA (Second Place) and Madilyn McCombs from Grapeland FFA (Third Place). LeBlanc also won the Anderson-Houston SWCD Scholarship while Thane Harrison from Teague FFA won the Freestone County SWCD Scholarship.

All parties send a great thanks to the Natural Resource Conservation Service team and soil scientists for their technical expertise as well as Mr. George Crocker, owner and operator of Amerada Ranch.
