Seven Madisonville High School FFA teams qualified for State last week at their Area competi-tions at the Stephen F. Austin campus in Nacogdoches on Nov. 14.
The news comes just weeks after the Mustang FFA and Marketing teams competed in state for the 2016 school year.
“This is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Madisonville CISD Agricultural Science teacher and coach off FFA activities Lynita Foster. “Only 20 teams in each event qualify for the state meet, so to have seven across the board is extremely impressive.”
Only teams that finished in the top two of their respective categories at Area competition quali-fied for State. Madisonville was represented in nine categories and recorded two first-place fin-ishes and five runner-ups. The two remaining teams still finished fourth, which is an impressive feat in its own right.
The fourth-place finishers were for the Senior Skill and Radio categories. The Senior Skill teams was made up of Mia Caperton, Maddi Kelso, Garrett Long, Madi Caperton and Lyndie Dunn. The radio team was comprised of Carson Fraley, Cody Cole and Emily Sanford.
Helena Dean qualified for state in her own right in the Job Interview portion of the competition. She finished second overall. Kacy Dutton also qualified alone with a second-place finish in Jun-ior Creed.
Also qualifying for state with runner-up status was the Senior Quiz group, Ag Advocacy, Junior Chapter Conducting and Junior Creed. The Senior Quiz team was comprised of Garrett Under-wood, Morgan Manning, Guillermo Rosas and Kacelyn Jarrell.
Ag Advocacy was led by Averie Simms, Joey McIver, Madison Counsil and Mia Caperton. The Junior Chapter Conducting group was made up of Emma Hurst, Kasey Long, Taylor Barrett, Carlie Stubblefield, Kallie Tilton, Chase McBee, Kacy Dutton, Brooke Huff and Kourtney Fleck.
The Ag Issues team continued to impress and were one of Madisonville’s two first-place finish-ers in Area. This year’s team Is comprised of Joey McIver, Helena Dean, Whitney Anderson, Brinna Simms, Madi Caperton and Aly Ghormley.
Madisonville’s other first-place squad in Nacogdoches was the Junior Quiz group. This team was led by Chase McBee, Courtnee Wallace, Lilly Goodwin and Bailey Butts.
These Mustangs along with Foster are continuing the effectiveness of the program as a whole with another impressive showing. With a mix of some new people as well as some of the same, Madisonville is one of the finest schools in the state for FFA competitions.
