MCISD Cheer steals the show

The Madisonville High School and Junior High cheerleading squads attended the Universal Cheerleading Association Camp at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine this summer for a week of practice and fun.

Both squads received multiple awards and recognitions. The high school cheerleaders earned Top Squad and the Leadership Award, which are the two most prestigious honors the camp offers. They also earned First Place Sidelines, Second Place Cheer, Game Day Champions and the Looney Tunes Award, which is presented to the squad with the best personality.

Three Mustang high schoolers received All-American Cheerleader Awards, including Kassandra Hernandez, Sai Sai Ly and Cheyanne Snook. Brooke Huff, Kassandra Hernandez and Mimi Holiday earned Pin It Forward Awards while the MHS mascot, Ciara Merchant, received a Superior Rating all week for her performance.

MJH won Superior Gold Ratings throughout the week as well as Game Day Champions and were the Top Jr. High squad out of all other schools in attendance. Three Mustang junior high students received All-American Cheerleader Awards, including Grayson Bennett, Gabby Bracewell and Jaylen Downard. Grayson Bennett, Gabby Bracewell and Briana Johnson also earned Pin It Forward Awards for exhibiting great leadership skills and a willingness to assist others. Kate Hagaman, the MJH mascot, received the Superior Award for the week as well as the All-American Mascot Award.

The Mustang cheerleaders are coached by Lori and Caryn Hagaman. The MHS squad consists of Hernandez, Ly, Snook, Huff, Holiday, Maria Ayala, Tiarra Merchant, Tootie Matthews, Catie Hagaman, Crystal Villata, Darian Wayland, Dy’Vana Smith, Ja’liyah Matthews, Jacheelynn Cooper, Jamiah Burns, Kayla Morales, Keyana Robinson, Lauren Ward, Madison Counsil and mascot Ciarra Merchant.

The MJH squad consists of Bennett, Bracewell, Downard, Johnson, Chantell Davis, Jerkayla Dickey, Landri Lee, McKenna Ethridge, Asia Jordan, Zoey Newton, McKenna Fraley, Kenzi Greer, Abby Poe, Audree Phillips, Brynlee Urbantke, Ashley Ward and mascot Kate Hagaman.
