MPD looks into shooting death

The Madisonville Police Department is investigating the gunshot death of a Normangee man.

Police Chief Herbert Gilbert said that right now the shooting is being treated as accidental.

According the Gilbert, the PD received a 9-1-1 call at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon about a shooting at the QuickStop, 101 N. May St.

When officers arrived, they found the male victim, Fedrico Aguirre, 46, in the parking lot by the gas pumps, bleeding from the chest.

According to witnesses, he was talking with some people outside of the vehicle, and at some point, he reached into the vehicle and retrieved a weapon.

The weapon discharged and hit the deceased in the left collarbone area, Gilbert said.

He was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Joseph Madisonville, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gilbert said there are more witnesses to interview.

“According to the information we have, it’s classified as an accidental shooting, but we are still looking into it,” he said.
