Mushroom Festival reverses course

The Texas Mushroom Festival is back on again.

After cancelling the event March 6 because organizers found a lack of participation of volunteers, the executive board voted Tuesday to rescind that vote, as numerous volunteers came forward.

Festival President Steve Carter said after the vote that they will contact the volunteers who attended or who expressed interest in serving as committee chairs in the next few weeks to begin making assignments.

He said that based on actual commitments made following last week's vote, he wasn't optimistic, but the interest level increased, especially at Tuesday's meeting, and after a closed vote, decided to go ahead with the 2018 festival.

Board member Susan Warmuth expressed her encouragement at the attendance, saying there were more people at Tuesday's meeting than had been at meetings for the previous four months.

"As the festival evolved, there is no way for one person to fly with it all," she said.

The board will meet again on March 29 at the Woodbine.
