The Madisonville soccer team moved into second place in district with a 5-3 shootout victory over Crockett at MHS March 10, their final contest before school activities were put on hold due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus.

“It was a big win (against Crockett),” said head coach Baltazar Reyes. “The boys played really well throughout the whole game.”

Juan Polanco scored the team’s lone regulation goal. He added another in the shootout along with Vladimir Morales, Luis Lopez and Antonio Vazquez.

Goalkeeper Jesus Zavala came up with two saves to help guide the Mustangs to the critical victory.

The Mustangs also picked up a 2-1 win over Mexia March 6 with goals from Morales and Chase Couch and an assist by Morales.

Madisonville was scheduled to take on Palestine in their district finale Tuesday at MHS, but the matchup was curtailed by the virus.

The team is unable to participate in any activities through March 29.

“I just told the boys to stay calm with this situation,” said Reyes. “I will let them know as we get more news.”
