Mustangs earn district honors

The Madisonville men’s soccer team saw multiple players earn district honors for their performance this season, which was cut short prior to the playoffs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The guys improved a lot and worked really hard throughout the whole season,” said MHS men’s soccer coach Baltazar Reyes. “I feel honored and happy to have had such a great team.”

Four Mustangs earned First Team All-District honors, including Vladimir Morales, Juan Polanco, Ryan Kinsey and Juan Torres.

Jesus Zavala, Diego Torres and Luis Lopez all qualified for Second Team All-District while Jovany Silva and Gabriel Sanchez were honorable mentions.

Emmanuel Guevara, Joseph Dean and Juan Bedolla were each selected to the Academic All-District squad.

A young Madisonville squad spent the season earning valuable experience but also finished their district slate with a record of 6-4, which was good for second place behind undefeated Palestine.

“(The players) gained a lot of experience with each and every game,” said Reyes. “It helped them learn from their mistakes and understand the game.”

The district awards were released April 20.
