The Madisonville Mustangs basketball team dropped a non-district contest to Salado at MHS on Friday by a score of 55-31.
The Mustangs shot just 24 percent from the field in the loss and turned the ball over 19 times. They were out rebounded on both sides of the floor and less effective from beyond the arc.
Jeremiah Gilbert led the way in scoring for Madisonville with nine points. He also recorded three of the team’s five successful three-point attempts. Tyrese Brown followed up with seven points of his own and Reyshawn Moore recorded six points in the loss.
Madisonville lagged behind in the first half, but Salado stifled any hopes of a late Mustangs comeback by outscoring them 16-3 in the final eight minutes.
Madisonville battled Shepherd on Tuesday for their final non-district matchup of the regular season. Their first league game will take place at MHS on Friday against Rusk at 7:30 p.m. They will travel to Palestine next week.
