All levels of the Madisonville Mustangs football program competed in the ‘Our Day to Shine’ scrimmage against Lexington at MHS on Thursday and raised 945 dollars for the THSCA Benevolence Fund.
JV competed before Varsity and both levels played two halves with a running clock. With a lot of new faces for Varsity, Coach Rusty Nail knew there would be ups and downs in the first live action of the season.
“I thought we played well defensively and matched their physicality,” said Nail. “Offensively, we got whooped up front. They loaded the box and we did not scheme them up but had scripted plays we wanted to get on film. There is a lot of room for improvement in all phases at this point, but we knew that coming in because most of these guys played primarily on Thursday nights last year.”
Madisonville will compete in another program-wide scrimmage against Cameron on Thursday at MHS at 5 p.m. Opening night is scheduled for Aug. 31 at home against Bellville at 7:30 p.m.
