Tony Leago has edged out incumbent County Judge C.E. “Butch” McDaniel to become the Republican nominee for the position in the November general election.
The unofficial results of Tuesday’s runoff election had Leago garnering 690 votes to McDaniel’s 525. In total, 1,261 votes were cast, or 17.28 percent of registered voters.
Leago, who is currently the mayor of Midway, will be unopposed in the November election, as there is no Democratic candidate in the primary.
McDaniel previously led Leago in the primary; however, since neither candidate gained 50.1 percent of the vote, the runoff was set.
In the race for County Commissioner Precinct 4, David Pohorelsky defeated challenger George Hartsfield 300 to 138.
In the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Steven Cole downed challenger Mitchell Dill 409 to 249.
In both those races, there also are no Democrat candidates.
The results will remain unofficial until canvassed by the County Commissioners’ Court.
