NZHS presents diplomas, scholarships

North Zulch High School presented 27 seniors with their high school diplomas on Friday in the gymnasium and also handed out scholarships from local businesses and supporters.

“Through the hard work and dedication you have put into these last four years, you have already proven your impact because every person in this building is here for one of you,” said Valedictorian Amanda May. “Whether you know it or not, you have changed someone’s life in this room alone. Apart from the difference you make when you leave, tonight is the night to reflect on everything you have achieved and experienced. I hope that when you look back on your high school career, you are proud and do not regret a single thing.”

The students entered the gymnasium and filled two rows set up for them on the court. Many of the families of graduates also sat floor level in the rows behind them. May thanked all of the parents in the crowd for their commitment to each graduate over the years.

“Without the help of our parents or guardians, we would not be filing these seats,” said May. “As your kids grow, they may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel. As much as your kids have brought joy to your life, you have filled theirs with equally as much and I want to commend you on making it this far and never giving up.”

Other speakers during the ceremony included James Pryor, Ashlynn Sturgeon, Kashaf Shahid, Salutatorian Mackensi Green, Alexandra Grier and Kayla Spadoni. Diplomas were handed out by Superintendent Alan Andrus and School Board President Brian Baker.

The North Zulch senior class officers included President Andres Garcia, Vice President Ciera Nava, Secretary Megan Massey and Treasurer Peyton Wolfe. The senior class sponsors were Dawn Chrane and Nevin Nichols.

As is tradition at NZHS graduation, students brought out flowers as a thank you to their parents following the ceremony. There were 27 sunflowers to represent each graduating student and a single purple flower in memory of classmate Hannah Weise, who passed away in 2016.

To conclude the ceremony, the new graduates linked arms and sang the Bulldog Alma Mater together amongst a sea of confetti.
