One arrested on cruelty charges


A Madisonville resident was arrested in mid-July on animal cruelty charges in connection with the death of a pet dog.

According to MPD reports, on June 27, the Madisonville Police Department and Madisonville Animal Control Division were informed about two pit bulls had been abandoned at 405 MLK Jr. St. When officers arrived, they found the dogs tethered to two different trees. One dog had very little water and the other no water at all.

Reports indicate that one of the dogs appeared to be suffering from malnutrition.

The owner was identified as Jeremy Roundtree, who was contacted and warned to take care of the animals.

According to reports, Roundtree He stated that he would take of them when he got off of work that day; however, on July 3, Animal Control Officer Ellie Haynes was driving near Roundtree’s residence and was flagged down by a witness stating that one of the dogs had died.

Haynes found one animal dead; the other was placed in the care of the Madisonville Animal Control Division.

On July 17, a warrant was issued for Jeremy Roundtree, 37, for a State Jail Felony of Cruelty To Non-Livestock Animals.

Jeremy Roundtree was arrested on July 17, and was released on a $25,000 bond.
