Madisonville freshman soccer player Lakin Pennington was selected as an Honorable Mention to the 2019 Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO) All-Region Team for her contributions to the Lady Mustangs in 2019.
“It feels amazing to get a chance to receive an award like this as a freshman,” said Pennington. “My family and I were hoping for Newcomer of the Year for the district but I ended up with offensive MVP and now this Honorable Mention. It really just blows my mind. Next year, I am aiming for All-State and plan to work harder than I ever have before to achieve my goal.”
Pennington transferred to MHS in Oct. and immediately became the scoring force that the Lady Mustangs were missing in 2018. Her 46 goals, an average of more than two per game, led the team by far and helped carry Madisonville to the top at the Yoeman Invitational during the preseason as well as a second place district finish.
“I have been coaching high school soccer for almost seven years and I have never had a player receive such an honor as a freshman," said Coach Travis Rasbeary. “She was one of only two freshmen recognized by TASCO and the only freshman attacker recognized for her ability. She is truly an extraordinary player that has accomplished a lot in her freshman year. This is the first time in our program history that we have had a player achieve such an honor. With three more years ahead of her, I see many more accolades to come.”
