There’s a thing that’s going and growing in the country that you may have heard of — Trump Derangement Syndrome.
It’s had other names, such as Bush DS, Palin DS, etc. — pretty much any name that the cognoscenti believe is the enemy of everything that is right.
What’s right, of course, changes with whatever liberals are championing that day, but more importantly, is directly opposite to whomever the left hates the most — also that day.
So we all can pretty much agree that Trump is the current personification of evil, based on the hysteria that erupts at any decision he makes, or anything he tweets, or pretty much if he breathes.
Just how deranged this has become is evident in several symptoms — what I call Total Logic Reversal and Eating Your Own.
Total Logic Reversal happens when a DS victim exhibits a particular behavior, like freedom of speech, and gets hammered unmercifully for either inciting hate or being insensitive, and then someone who is near and dear to the liberal will pull the same bonehead move, and be given a pass.
An example of this is the situation with Joy Reid, who years ago made derogatory comments about homosexuals, is being treated with kids’ gloves and even given a pass with the excuse “I was hacked,” but Trump wants to protect the U.S. and the border with a moratorium on immigrants and he’s the devil. Even Paula Deen, who reportedly used racial epithets decades ago, has been made persona non grata (she even owned up and apologized).
Now, the next step in this is Eating Your Own: our exhibit here is that Kanye West, of whom I’m not a fan, did something uncharacteristic and tweeted some support for Donald Trump. So of course, the liberals, who used to praise West for some reason, now think he’s a devil, or at least devil adjacent.
This of course has elements of Logic Reversal, because apparently, speech is only free if it attacks the current subject of derangement syndrome. Speech was free for the professor at Fresno State, Randa Jarrar, who called the late Barbara Bush a racist who raised racists, but Heaven forbid Kanye say he likes Trump.
All of this is petty and childish, and I’m pretty sure that the majority of adults in the United States are getting fed up with these antics. We cannot begin to solve problems and move the country forward if we can’t bother to deal with one another is a sensible, adult way.
It is inconceivable that the course this country will be put on has to be either one way or the other, and be damned to the opposition. But until we can learn to talk to one another again, be prepared for more episodes of an uncontrolled Romper Room.
•Our Headline of Note this week is another submission from the Animal Kingdom, and one from Down Under: As Koalas Suffer From Chlamydia, A New Clue For Treatment.
How a koala can get chlamydia is puzzling, but it’s more puzzling why this needed to be a news story. Sure, it’s sad, but it’s more a local type of story, not one that has a huge impact in the United States.
Yes, National Geographic, which published the story, has a stake in this, but again, not something I think is the focus of international concern.
